nothing worse than seeing a film that leaves you cold.
seeing running with scissors did just that. left me strangely empty. tossing between kind of liking it, then deciding against it and then back again. drawing unfavourable comparison to the royal tannenbaums. i decided to drop it. instead, to prop myself up. i had to remind myself of what great cinema is. and what it can do. and this is where i found it. in just this ONE scene. wow. yes. i feel much better now.

Did you read the book? I loved it and was looking forward to the movie...but no?
I felt EXACTLY the same way about Running With Scissors - it seemed as if it was trying too hard to achieve the stylised kookiness of, say, The Royal Tenenbaums, but with nothing like the flair and wit of that film. Big disappointment.
YUP. not to mention that something struck me as profoundly unauthentic. like this autobiography was semi-made up. you know? which got me thinking to "the heart is deceitful above all things'' ...another film based on a bio that turned out to be a pack of lies..
was impressed with alec baldwin though...only guy who seemed to be holding back from acting hysterical
didn't see this, but heard it was horrible.
chichi and i went to see "the lives of others" the other day. omg go see it. we left sobbing. chichi more so than me. :)
