India: An elephant in the eastern state of Orissa has turned to highway robbery for food. The animal is yet to harm a human but refuses to let vehicles pass until the driver has exited the vehicle and allowed it to search for fooood.

Forestry officials think that the animal is old and having a hard time getting food of it's own. Police have received a large number of complaints about the creature. Motorists have been advised to co-operate with the elephant lest it attack.

"The elephant then inserts its trunk inside the vehicle and sniffs for food. If you are carrying vegetables and banana inside your vehicle, then it will gulp them and allow you to go," said Prabodh Mohanty.
