My new home away from home
strolling casually in milan, or maybe shuffling uncomfortably on heels, i bumped into a little corner of paradise....
COSY COSY COSY
a little musty, and dusty bolthole owned by a glam yet ageing red-head who has owned the shop for 26 years...and built her collection bit by bit so it's an eclectic mix of black and white memorabilia, rare collector items, random old editions of cahiers du cinema carelessly tossed aside, and some of the most stunning coffee-table books i've clapped my eyes upon...whose pages i leafed through religiously, to see ruggedly handsome marlon brandos and yul brynners leap out at me, cigarettes dangling carelessly from their full lips. i recognize the BackGroundMusic in the shop...it's wong kar wai's 2046 soundtrack...from the corner of mine eye i spot something. a flash of instant recognition..it's a collection of romy schneider pictures taken in rome by her friend. i have it! she has it!
a passing glance turns into a 2 hour sit-down, a quick wonder turned into .... well i emerged with books. many books. and a single image in my mind.
to find beauty in everything you see. to find beauty in ugliness. in the darkest recesses of the human mind. and there, find hope and love.
