Whatever: they're in the Big League. Although I'm a bit shocked you missed out Peeping Tom (creepy, creepy), and Battle of the River Plate which, although flawed, is clearly a Great Movie.
Although not a patch on those repressed nuns, of course.
And they also shot one of my favourite train sequences, in their rom-com "I know where I'm going". Wendy Hiller sets off on the sleeper to Scotland to marry her beau, the laird, and her journey fades into a fantasy model railway that is simply delirious. Magnificent. In fact, I may have to play that sequence to myself right now.
--I have been with you every day of my life. Tell me you know that. -- Yes, I know it. --You must also know that I shall be with you every day that is granted to me from now on. Every evening I shall sit down to dine with you. Not with my body, which is of no importance, but with my soul. Because this evening I have learned, my dear, that in this beautiful world of ours, all things are possible.
